Marley's Dog Days of Summer!

Marley says "It is Hot in Arizona this summer!" I am really looking forward to it cooling off, but that probably won't happen until Oct. at the earliest so my parents tell me. I am just a puppy and this has been my first summer experience in Arizona. My Dad has to take me for a walk around 4:30 or 5 A.M. every morning before it gets too hot! I need my exercise! You know you should never take a dog out for a walk here during the day because they might get heatstroke, burn their pads or just get plain sick! Always allow your dog to rest and make sure they get plenty of water! I hope your parents take good care of you dogs like mine do! My parents never take me in the car unless they need to in the summer, and would never leave me in the heated car. A dog could die from the heat! In the summer heat temperatures in a car can rise to 120 degrees or more!

Symptoms of a heatstroke in a dog include increased heart rate, labored breathing, weakness and even seizures and coma. If you suspect your dog is on the verge of heatstroke, cool him down quickly with water or cover him with wet towels. Then head to the Vet! The earlier a heatstroke is treated the more likely your dog will recover.

Ask your parents to help protect your eyes from the sun by buying you Doggles. They are great and help protect your eyes from the elements. They come in such fun styles and many different sizes! I love mine! I guess it sounds like I am a little spoiled, but what can a dog do?

I enjoy going outside and lying in the sun during the day, but my parents won't let me stay out too long either which sometimes gets on my nerves, but I guess they know what is best for me. It just doesn't give me much time to chase those lizards (or lizzies as we call them). Shade can help keep a dog cool, but not really that much in the Dog Days of Summer in Arizona. Air conditioning and fans can really help to cool you down.

I do love water, and love to be misted with the water from the hose. I run through the sprinklers as often as I can and I have a kiddie pool that really cools me down too. My parents want to get a real pool, and that will really be fun for me. I can't wait! I even enjoy my baths outside now! I do tend to get a little rambunctious when I get wet!

One of my favorite things is the Kool Dogz Ice Treat Maker! That can cool a dog down really well! I love ice!! You might want to consider getting one of these for your dog! What a great treat!

Well, I am a little exhausted from the heat so I best go take a nap! Until next time, chill out! Bow Wow!

  1. Thanks for the tips, Marley! That is a really cool ice maker that you have, I might try something like that for my dog :)
